Presidents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan highly appreciated the results of fruitful negotiations
Following the talks held at the Kuksaroy Residence, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Zhaparov made statements for media representatives.
The President of Uzbekistan noted that the state visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan has become historic and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
It was emphasized that serious preparatory work had been jointly carried out for the current summit. The regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Forum, the Rectors’ Forum, and the Dialogue of Generations were fruitful. Events are being held in the regions of Uzbekistan as part of the Kyrgyzstan Culture Days.
The results of today’s negotiations, which took place in a traditionally open, constructive, and friendly atmosphere, were noted with great satisfaction.
The leaders discussed in detail the entire range of current issues on the bilateral agenda and heard reports from deputy prime ministers and ministers with specific plans in the trade and economic sphere.
The main political document of the visit was the Joint Statement on further deepening and expanding relations of a comprehensive strategic partnership, which will serve as the basis for further transition to a higher stage of interaction in the future.
An agreement was reached on establishing an Interstate Council under the leadership of the heads of the two states.
The leaders agreed to further develop close political dialogue and maintain active contacts with parliaments, governments, foreign policy agencies, industry ministries, regions, businesses, and public circles.
The parties will continue to support each other’s initiatives within the framework of regional and international platforms, including the United Nations, SCO, CIS, Organization of Turkic States, Consultative Meetings of the Heads of State of Central Asia, and other formats.
The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of forming a new comprehensive economic agenda for cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
A Program for increasing mutual trade volumes was adopted today for these purposes. In addition, trading houses will be created in the two countries’ capitals, and a long-term portfolio of export-import contracts will be prepared to bring the trade turnover to $2 billion in the coming years.
Instruments for supporting exports and recognizing certificates will be introduced, and a green corridor for fruit, vegetable, and livestock products will be launched.
The leaders focused on creating new growth points in industrial cooperation, primarily in industries where the economies of the two countries complement each other. These are projects in energy, the automotive industry, transport and logistics, electrical engineering, textiles, agro-industrial, and other industries.
Today, important projects for the construction of solar power plants in Fergana and Namangan regions, the production of cars in Chuy region and textile products in Kara-Balta were launched.
To support such projects, the President of Uzbekistan announced a decision to increase the authorized capital of the Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan Development Fund to $200 million.
The importance of expanding the systemic interregional dialogue was noted. An agreement was reached to intensify the activities of the Council of Heads of the Border Regions. A schedule of mutual visits will be prepared, and the cooperation action plans will be updated. The task was set to increase the project portfolio to one billion dollars by the end of the year.
The heads of state identified new opportunities in agriculture. These include joint cultivation of agricultural crops, the creation of intensive gardens and agroclusters, and the use of futures instruments.
The parties agreed to intensify joint efforts to strengthen regional transport connectivity.
“The signing of the trilateral Agreement on the strategic project for the construction of the China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan railway was a historic event”, the Leader of Uzbekistan noted.
An agreement was reached to create an expert group to study new projects in the development of transport corridors.
The heads of the two states prioritized cooperation in the energy sector.
The parties agreed to prepare a separate Program for Cooperation in Small Hydropower.
“We will take measures to accelerate the adoption of the trilateral Agreement on constructing the Kambarata HPP. This megaproject will undoubtedly serve the sustainable development of our entire region”, the President of Uzbekistan emphasized.
Active contact and exchanges in culture, youth, education, science, and sports will continue.
The President of Uzbekistan noted the opportunities for developing tourist exchange. Direct flights from Tashkent to Bishkek and Tamchy have now been established.
During the visit, an agreement was signed on the activities of Uzbekistan’s health resort complexes in Issyk-Kul. In early July, the Uzbek side launched three facilities that are already receiving guests. New projects for the development of tourism infrastructure are being developed.
A solid package of agreements in essential interaction areas was signed following the fruitful negotiations.
In conclusion, the Leader of Uzbekistan once again expressed deep satisfaction with the negotiations’ results and confidence that the fruitful results of the historic visit of the President of Kyrgyzstan to Uzbekistan will contribute to strengthening cooperation with concrete content and friendship, good neighborliness, and strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
