Cultural and humanitarian cooperation


The cooperation in cultural and educational spheres is being developed on a systematic basis. Signing of the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the United States of America on Science and Technology Cooperation in December 2010 laid the foundation for the partnership in the sphere of science and technology.

Currently there is noticeable intensification of Uzbek-American cooperation in cultural, humanitarian and educational spheres. The successful conduct of the following bilateral events in these spheres clearly demonstrate the stated:

– concert tour of the American jazz band “Alice Underground” along with conducting master classes in a number of universities in Uzbekistan and performance in Tashkent (December 9-16, 2016);

– “round table” on “Uzbekistan-US: 25 Years of Solid Cooperation”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the United States of America (January 7, 2017);

– participation of number of Uzbek artists in concerts in the USA, organized by the company “Miraf Entertainment LLC” (March 1-5, 2017);

– arranging the concert of the Uzbek pop singer Yulduz Usmanova in New York together with the Consulate General and representatives of the Uzbek diaspora.

Uzbekistan and the United States also carry out consistent cooperation in the implementation of educational and academic programs through:

– conducting mutual visits of representatives of specialized and humanities universities of both countries;

– assignment of English, management and business education specialists from the United States in the language teaching higher education institutions of Uzbekistan, as well as universities with the training of specialists in economic and business areas;

– organization of joint research projects of scientists and specialists of Uzbekistan and the USA.

Within the framework of this cooperation, more than five specialists from the USA carry out teaching activities in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.

On November 8-10, 2016 State Department’s University Partnerships coordinator Richard Boyum visited Uzbekistan to arrange meetings and negotiations, as well as to discuss topical issues of cooperation in this field.

In 2017, agriculture universities of Uzbekistan and the United States signed eight memorandums of understanding, which put forward practical steps for cooperation in the scientific and educational sphere.

Tashkent State Law University (TSLU) delegation visit to the United States led by rector Esemurat Kanyazov laid the foundation for strengthening mutually beneficial relations with the School of Law of Boston College, the Georgetown University, the College of Law of the American University. The result was the invitation of the teachers from these universities to lecture and conduct seminars for TSLU students .

During President Mirziyoyev’s visit to the United States in September, 2017, an agreement was reached to open in 2018 the first branch of an American university in Uzbekistan – Webster University.
