Uzbekistan’s Economy in Figures: Sectoral Development Insights
The strategic directions of our economy have found their expression in the “Uzbekistan — 2030” strategy. Based on this, the results of the work performed last year are prominently reflected in the main macroeconomic indicators.
Preliminary assessments indicate that in 2023, our country’s gross domestic product (GDP) volume in current prices amounted to 1 quadrillion 66.6 trillion UZS, an increase of 6 percent compared to the previous year. The agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector grew by 4 percent, industry by 6 percent, construction by 6.4 percent, trade, accommodation, and food services by 10.2 percent, transportation, storage, information and communication services by 12.3 percent, and other services by 4.5 percent.
As of 2023, the composition of the economy sectors was as follows: agriculture, forestry, and fisheries accounted for 24.3 percent, industry for 26.1 percent, construction for 6.2 percent, and the services sector for 43.4 percent of GDP. The contributions to GDP growth were 2.6 percent from services, 1.5 percent from industry, 1 percent from agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and 0.4 percent from construction.
Additionally, in 2023, Tashkent city contributed the most to the formation of GDP with a share of 17.1 percent. Tashkent and Navoi regions followed with 10.1 percent and 7.7 percent, respectively. Syrdarya region (2 percent), the Republic of Karakalpakstan (3.1 percent), and Jizzakh region (3.1 percent) showed the lowest results.
Last year, the per capita GDP volume in current prices amounted to 29.3 million UZS, growing by 3.8 percent compared to 2022.
Industrial Production
Preliminary data for 2023 indicate that more than 69.4 thousand industrial enterprises produced goods worth 655.8 trillion UZS, a volume increase of 6 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year. The processing industry accounted for the highest share at 84.4 percent. The mining and quarrying industry accounted for 8.4 percent, electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply for 6.7 percent, and water supply; sewerage, waste management, and remediation activities for 0.5 percent.
