Delegation of the USA got acquainted with reforms of Uzbekistan in the sphere of human rights and freedom of citizens on July 15th 2013
Members of the delegation staying in our country in the head of deputy assistant of State secretary of the USA on issues of democracy, human rights and labor, Jane Zimmerman on July 15th met with the Authorized Person of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for human rights (Ombudsman), Sayora Rashidova.
During the meeting it was particularly stressed the consistent development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the USA in most directions, including in the sphere of development of the civil society institutions and human rights protection.
Implemented in Uzbekistan large-scale reforms on construction of the legal democratic state and strong civilian society under the leadership of the President Islam Karimov give high results. Created organizing-legal basis for human rights and civilian interests. Institute of Ombudsman in Uzbekistan also carries a great work in the field of human rights protection and freedom of citizens.
Authorized Person of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights plays an important role in the implementation of parliamentary control over the enforcement of legislation relating to human rights. This institution has been working hard to restore violated rights of citizens, as well as further improvement of legislation.
During negotiations it was stressed, that by the Authorized person of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for human rights has been established the cooperation with Ombudsmans of other countries, and this will contribute to a wide acquaintance of the world society with deepening processes of democratic reforms in Uzbekistan, as well as widening partnership with international institutions for human rights.
Cooperation in the field of human rights plays an important role in the international relations of the United States - says Jane Zimmerman. - We are very pleased with the consistent development of mutual cooperation with Uzbekistan in this direction. We got the opportunity to closely study the work carried out for the protection of rights and freedoms of citizens. Large-scale reforms in this field are being implemented in your country. Noteworthy is the fact that to ensure the effectiveness of the Ombudsman activity an important role belongs to the regional representatives. They make a great contribution to the further expansion of the scope of work for the protection of rights and interests.

Its cooperation with the police and judicial authorities to protect human rights has produced significant results. The parties noted that there are opportunities to strengthen the links in this area and agreed to further intensify cooperation.
The US delegation held negotiations at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
