Visit to Russia to take special place in history ? Uzbek leader
The official visit of the Uzbek President Islam Karimov to Russia will take special place in new history of Russia and Uzbekistan, the Uzbek leader said at the airport before departure to Moscow.
As earlier reported, the President Karimov will pay official visit to Russia today and it is expected that the sides will sign agreement of allied relations.
Islam Karimov said: ?I think that this visit to the Russian Federation will occupy a special place in the new history of relations between Uzbekistan and Russia. Among the important documents prepared for this meeting is the signing of a treaty on allied relations between Russia and Uzbekistan.?
?In June 2004 we signed the treaty on strategic partnership between Russia and Uzbekistan, and I think it is yielding results. This step, which we made last year, and its results encourage both sides to raise partnership relations to the level of allied relations. I should say that there are all opportunities for this. I should say repeatedly that the signing of the treaty on allied relations between us is the result of work done not within a year. We have been working on this for a long time. I think I will not be mistaken if I say that we made the first step last year,? he said.
The new agreement will, firstly, raise military and military-technical cooperation to a higher and reliable level; receiving the necessary aid and support in providing the armed forces with modern weapons and cooperation in this field, Karimov said.
