President of Uzbekistan meets Deputy Premier of State Council of China
On July 18 President Islam Karimov received the deputy Premier of the State council of China, Ms U I. The President welcomed his guest and expressed satisfaction with the development of Uzbek-Chinese relations.
\"Today we can say that the fruitful cooperation between Uzbekistan and China, based on mutual respect, trust and interest, has been raised to a new level. The many facetted relations develop on a long-term basis.\"
In the successes achieved in broadening cooperation, in the present high level of our ties, last\' year\'s visit by Chinese Chairman Hu Tsintao to Uzbekistan and the state visit of President Islam Karimov to China in May were important steps.
The interstate Agreement on partnership relations of friendship and cooperation opened new vistas for both countries.
Trade-economic cooperation is strengthening. In 2004 trade turnover grew 69.6% and reached 7.1m. In the first 5 months of 2005 it was 3.8m.
In Uzbekistan there are more than 100 JVs. 26 Chinese firms function here in trade, services, light industry, agricultural processing, information technology and communications.
Humanitarian-cultural ties are increasing. Chinese partook in the music festival Shark taronalari, and Uzbek folklore groups participate in cultural and tourist festivals in Peking. Last year in Tashkent and Samarkand there was Days of Chinese culture. This year in Peking and Shanghai Days of Uzbek culture were organized. In 2003 in Chanchun a monument to Kamoliddin Behzod was raised.
Cooperation in education is increasing. In Tashkent an Uzbek-Chinese Confucians institute was opened. In Peking central university of nationalities there is a department of Uzbek language.
Uzbekistan and China closely cooperation in politics and military spheres. There is an agreement on coordinating efforts against terrorism, extremism and separatism. There is cooperation in international structures such as the SCO.
A high value was attached to relations at the meeting. There are still possibilities to increase cooperation and develop ties.
Ms U I told the President that she was grateful for his warm reception and that the Uzbek-Chinese business forum would soon bring results.
They spoke about further increasing cooperation, presidential press service reported.
