Uzbek Senator meets Secretary-General of SCO
Chairman of foreign policy committee of Senate of Oliy Majlis (upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament) Sadyk Safaev met the Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Zhang Deguang in China on 17 June.
Zhang Deguang warmly welcomed the arrival of Mr. Safaev and congratulated him on a successful visit to China which had recently been made by President Islam Karimov.
Sadyk Safaev expressed his gratitude in response to the Secretary-General\'s congratulation. He highly appreciated all the achievements. This so far had been made by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and noticed that the SCO had already become one of those few international organisations which were able to attract a lot of attention.
The parties exchanged views on issues concerning the current situation inside Uzbekistan and latest developments in the Central Asia.
Zhang Deguang pointed out that the SCO adheres to the principle of non-intervention in internal matters of a country and acts against intervention by other parties in internal affairs of the organization?s member states.
The Secretary-General expressed his confidence that the Uzbek party could independently and properly solve its internal problems.
Uzbek Senator underlined that, given the current situation in the Central Asian region, it is necessary to strengthen coordinated interaction with the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation organization and to speed up its development and growth.
In the course of the meeting, at the request of Safaev, Zhang Deguang briefed the guest on the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Astana Summit.
