Japan issues loan for US$353.87m to Uzbekistan
The Government of Japan allocated 34.877 billion yens (about US$353.873 million) to implementation of the Navoi Thermal Power Station Modernization Project.

The loan was issued to Uzbekistan within the Official Development Aid (ODA). On 22 August 2013, Tashkent hosted a ceremony on signing exchange notes within the Japanese yen loan of ODA within the Navoi Thermal Power Station Modernization Project.

Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan Fumihiko Kato and Minister of Foreign Economic Relation, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev signed the exchange notes.

The project envisages construction of the second combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 450 megawatt, as well as gas compression station. The project will be implemented in two years.

The consortium of Turkish Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret AS and Spanish Initec completed construction of combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 450 megawatt at the Navoi thermal power station in October 2012. The project cost was US$530 million.

Japanís Mitsubishi supplied combined-cycle plant with the capacity of 478 megawatt to Navoi thermal power station. The project will allow to produce 2.8 billion KWH of electricity a year and cut consumption of fuel by 1.8 times. It will save 400 million tonnes of gas or over US$110 million.

Total capacities of the Navoi thermal power station with new combined-cycle plant reached 1,546 megawatt, which allows to produce 7.9 billion KWH electricity a year.
