?Global exchange? between students of Uzbekistan and Great Britain
Press conference on the results of the first stage of the ?Global Exchange? Project implemented by the British Council in Uzbekistan was held on 27 May, at Poytaht Hotel in Tashkent. The project is intended to provide young people of Uzbekistan and Great Britain a unique opportunity to familiarize with the lifestyle, and cultural life of the other country.
In October 2004, British Council in cooperation with the Voluntary Service Overseas and Community Services Volunteers started work on the international exchange program. Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Philippines and Nigeria joined the project.
18 young people of Uzbekistan and Great Britain started working on the project in Bukhara in early March of the present year. Their main objective is not only to familiarize with the culture and lifestyle of the students of the same age in Uzbekistan but also enclosing a contribution into socially important work, implemented in various spheres of state organizations and NGOs. Community service projects, educational, sport and cultural events in orphanages and schools of Bukhara, weekly English classes in kindergartens, as well as fundraisings intended to help unattached seniors.
A group of volunteers will spend the following three months in Bradford (Great Britain), and will participate in a number of projects, including organization of the Volunteers? Day. Moreover, they are expected to participate in the shootings of a documentary for the British Museum of Cinematography and the project on youth art development.
