In Uzbekistan, for the first nine months of 2012, the total volume of investment in fixed assets exceeded 15.3b soums and rose by 9.8%. The volume of foreign investments and loans amounted to US$2b. Export increased by 12.4%

Measures to stimulate investment activity of business entities and the public have contributed to growth in investments from its own funds of enterprises – for 10.3%, the population’s funds – for 23.6%. According to experts, accelerating the implementation of major strategic industrial and infrastructure projects was supported by the 1.5 times growth of funding from the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan.

Since the beginning of this year, the country commissioned 882 production facilities, including light industry and textile industry (337 facilities), food (234), in the building materials industry (189), timber (46), engineering (14), the chemical industry (16) and other sectors (46).

Tax authorities introduce new technologies

Uzbekistan creates a single integrated information resource base of the tax authorities.

In the first phase, until 1 January 2013 an integration of the informational base of all regional state tax inspections into a central one will be held. In the second stage, until 1 January 2015, there will be an integration of the informational base of ministries and agencies on onset and termination of obligations of taxpayers into a unified data base of the State Tax Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Farmers’ Council founded in Uzbekistan

Farmers’ Council has been founded in Uzbekistan. Constituent Assembly of the Farmers’ Council was held in Tashkent on 13 November 2012, UzA reported.

The state-run agency reported that some 350 farmers from Karakalpakstan and all regions of Uzbekistan attended the event. The main tasks of the councils are to develop proposals on improving legislation in farming, strengthening material and financial base of farmers, ensuring reliable protection of their property.

The council has the right to sue decisions of state and economic authorities without paying state duty.


Support for NGO

Parliamentary Commission for Management of the Assets of the Public Fund for Support of NGOs and Other Civil Society Institutions held a regular hearing.

The meeting highlighted the results of the sixth grant competition of the public fund on enhancing the capacity of nongovernmental non-profit organizations in protecting the environment and health, and addressing important issues of rational use of natural resources.

More than 130 NGOs and other civil society institutions submitted 228 applications for the tender, which is 32% more than last year.

The Parliamentary Commission scrutinized the social significance of the submitted projects, ways and mechanisms of their implementation. The contest provides funding for over 40 projects worth 580 million soums. (Source: Uzbekistan Today newspaper)

CADAP implementation

Tashkent hosted a conference devoted to the implementation of the Fifth phase of the Program of Action of the European Union to combat drug trafficking in Central Asia (CADAP).

The event was organized by the National Information and Analytical Center on Drug Control under the Cabinet of Ministers and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The Conference’s participants were experts of ministries and agencies working in the area of combating drug use and drug trafficking, international organizations, the diplomatic corps accredited in Uzbekistan.

The conference noted that a new phase of the program to prevent the spread of drugs in Central Asia, funded by the European Union has began in Tashkent. The program consists of three components - increasing knowledge of the drug situation in the country, support for the introduction of modern systems of drug treatment and drug prevention, awareness and access to treatment.


Uzbekistan defeats Iran to top Group A of World Cup qualifiers

Uzbekistan national team topped the Group A of the fourth round of the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after claiming famous a 1-0 victory over Iran at Azadi Stadium in Tehran. It is the first victory of Uzbekistan over Iran as a Central Asian nation could not defeat Iran in their previous encounters.

After the victory Iran, South Korea and Qatar have seven points each. Lebanon is on the last place with four points.
