FM MEETS EU DIPLOMATS TO DISCUSS ELECTIONS, UZBEK-EU FORUM
Uzbek Foreign Minister Sadyk Safaev met heads of diplomatic missions of the European Union in Uzbekistan on 25 January to discuss results of elections and the upcoming meeting of Uzbekistan-EU Cooperation Council.
Safaev informed diplomats on the results of elections, which were held in December 2004 and January 2005.
The European envoys congratulated with successful elections and expressed their optimism on the activity of the new parliament. They noted that efficiency of the new parliament would directly depend on full implementation of accepted decisions, Foreign Ministry?s press service said.
The sides also discussed preparation to the sixth session of Uzbekistan-EU Cooperation Council, which will be held in Brussels on 1 February.
Minister Safaev, who is the council co-chairman, informed the diplomats on the main tasks of the delegation of Uzbekistan at the session ? boosting cooperation with European Union in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
The diplomats also learned that the session would consider political issues, technical assistance and cooperation in education, culture and science. Implementation of political criteria of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be also considered, the ministry said.
The envoys also discussed the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov on creation of single market within the Central Asian Cooperation Organization.
