UNFPA EXPERT MISSION ARRIVES IN TASHKENT
Expert mission of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has arrived in Tashkent to identify the ways to expand technical support in the use of demographic data in developing and monitoring state socio-economic programs in the framework of the fourth Country programme of cooperation between UNFPA and the Government of Uzbekistan for 2016-2020.

One of the key results of the implementation of the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for 2016-2020 is the further strengthening of the national capacity in the development and monitoring of socio-economic policies and programmes that are based on the information on population dynamics, reproductive health in relation to sustainable development.

In order for effective planning of the technical support towards national partners, UNFPA invited the group of experts on population issues.

During the stay in Uzbekistan, the group will hold meetings with key partners of UNFPA to study and review the current joint programming initiatives for the collection and analysis of the data in the field of population, and its consecutive usage to develop and monitor the socio-economic programmes, and explore possible ways to expand technical support in this area.

UNFPA cooperates with the Government of Uzbekistan in strengthening the national capacities for the collection and analysis of data on population. In particular, in recent years, UNFPA has assisted in training to more than 100 experts from various ministries and agencies in modern methods of collecting and processing data on population, and also supported the establishment of population databases for their usage in monitoring the effectiveness of measures to further improve the lives of people in the Aral sea region.

UNFPA started its activities in Uzbekistan in 1993, and today the Agency carries out the IV Country programme in close cooperation with national partners.
